Week 7 - Celebrations in the UK

Hi all,

This week we will be looking at celebrations in the UK. Two celebrations we will look at are Valentines Day and St. Davids Day; two celebrations that have just been celebrated/going to be celebrated.

Homework:
Approx. 200 words - Write a summary (in your own words) about St. Davids Day. You should mention:

- background history of this celebration (i.e. who is St. David and why is he of importance)
- when does this celebration take place?
- who celebrates this day?
- what do people in the UK do/wear to celebrate this day?
- what traditional food is eaten on this day (Welsh recipies)

Week 6 - The British Government

Hi all,

This week we will be looking at the British Government. We will look at:
- The new Goverment
- Cabinet ministers and their role in the Government
- How the Conservative and Labour parties have changed
- What a 'hung parliament' means

Your homework this week is to write a post about one of the following questions (approx. 100 words):
1. Select 3 interesting facts about Nick Clegg AND David Cameron - write a post containing these 6 facts.
OR
2. Research women MPs. How many female ministers have there been in the past? How many female ministers are in the British government now and what are their roles? Who was the first woman MP and when was she in Parliment?
At the end of your post, don't forget to reference your websites you use to gather information or you will loose marks on your post.

Week 5 - The UK Parliament

This week you will learn more about the UK Parliament. In class we will match specific vocabulary to their definitions. We will also read some information about the UK parliament and answer some questions.

Your homework: Write 2 paragraphs on your blog site. One papragraph will introduce the reader to some background information about the UK Parliament and the second paragraph will contain the answers to task 2 questions. Please USE discourse markers to connect your sentences and check for spelling and grammar mistakes before publishing your posts.
IMPORTANT: Please include the names and addresses of the websites at the end of your blog that you use to gather information.

Your blogs will be marked next Wednesday afternoon from 1pm onwards.
